Usually, I’d be writing this from our rented room in Echavez.
The kids would be asleep with Ash
While Stephen and myself hang on to the last minutes of this annual celebration
With a beer on the other hand while at it

This year, however, was a little different from the usual
We need to fetch Ash’s Mama at the airport on the evening of the Sinulog Day
So we woke up early, to soak up whatever was happening on the streets
Which was pretty crowded than past years if you ask me
By lunch we were already in Ayala so we won’t get caught in traffic heading to the airport.
And these are some of our pictures from Day 1 of the Novena.

It was raining hard on the first day, but we just couldn’t miss it for the world.

Day 2 was a little better.

We missed Day 3 this year but on the 4th Day, I went straight to Sto. Niño after my shoot at Casa Gorordo.

Always a sight to behold even if I see one day after day.

I was tired to bring my heavy DSLR so most of these are from the mighty, mighty iPhone.

Pit Senyor!

We celebrated Ash’s birthday in between too.

It never rained again but sometimes the sky was cloudy and sometimes there were stars above us.

On one of those nights we headed out to Starbucks to unwind. And unwind did Choy!

A rare picture of myself.

On the last day of the novena, I managed to squeeze in inside.

This is Thurston, just as we were about to start the procession.

Kuya is all set.

The guy in front of me had this.

We waited in the crossing of Mango and Echavez for the Sto. Niño to pass by us.

Kuya was so excited to see him.

And then we followed the crowd.

“Kanamo, maluoy ka unta”.

The eagle has awaken.

I thought it was Jay from Kamikazee!

Year after year after year after year after year…

The crowd was beautiful to see.

I’m there.

Kuya almost lost it but he saw McDonalds and everything was alright with the world.

Baby was just chill!

Banners hanging from all over the city!

McDonalds fix!

We saw these huge snails when we walked back to our hotel room.

On sinulog day, I took pictures of Luis and Melanie. Our 7th month of shooting. 4 more before their wedding.

The streets were packed and unlike last year, there were very clear signages of where people can cross the streets.

So while waiting for chance to cross, I shot a few pictures.

Luckily, I bumped into Baby before I went back to the hotel.

What’s up Kowa?

Baby with the ice cream.

I only wanted a picture of baby but these guys want in.

On our way to Ayala!

We arrived at Mactan early to we stayed at Starbucks where Kuya and I played Super Mario Smash!

There!

And then we headed to the aiport to pick up Ash’s Mama and Papa. Pit Senyor Everybody.
